Some of you will remember the old commercials with the admonition “A Mind is a terrible thing to Waste.”  That statement is never truer than when it is said about the subject of this Sunday’s message- having the mind of Christ.

This week we’ll be “piggy-backing” on last Sunday’s message about the ministry of the Spirit in the life of the church (1 Cor 2:1-10).  Remember what we said about the Spirit- He enables us to believe & to serve & He enlightens us to the deep things of God.  This is possible because the Holy Spirit is not just some force that comes upon is, but is actually THE Spirit of God sent by Jesus into the individual lives of His people.  In other words, He indwells everyone who has put faith in Christ as their personal Lord & Savior.

This week we will see further how it is that the Holy Spirit ENLIGHTENS believers to the deep things of God.  I believe He does this THROUGH the Mind of Christ, which we read about in 1 Corinthians 2:11-16.

11 For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man’s spirit within him? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.  12 We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us.  13 This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words.  14 The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.  15 The spiritual man makes judgments about all things, but he himself is not subject to any man’s judgment:  16 “For who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.

“A Terrible thing to Waste” is another sermon in our Church-Builders series.  It’s kind of obvious that the text builds up to the statement “but we have the mind of Christ.”  We’re going to explore that statement by trying to answer WHO has the mind of Christ, what it MEANS to have the mind of Christ, & just WHAT is it?

The Spirit has a Ministry in the Church, & part of that ministry is endowing believers in Christ with His mind.  So if you are a believer, ask yourself this question- Am I wasting the mind of Christ that has been given to me?

Here is the playlist for Sunday’s service to help you as you contemplate having the Mind of Christ through the Holy Spirit of God.
